Our daily lives are consumed with being busy and on the go. Our culture tends to praise those who are hustling and condemn those who choose to rest, labelling them as lazy.
As humans, we need moments of peace to feel revitalized and renewed, and as moms, we desire contentment.
Our thoughts are monopolized with work, preparing dinner, getting the kids out on time for the sports that we are now late for, again! Rarely do we have time to slow down to hear the voice of the Lord.
Afraid to surrender control of a busy life we feel it will all fall apart if we slow down. As we force what we want we end up enduring the overwhelming feeling which eventually leads to burnout.
Letting go of the noise by slowing down will give us time to hear what we need.
I have learned that I cannot continually fill my calendar with ‘all things busy’. For three years it has been ‘go, go, go!’ as my work schedule did not leave space for me to slow down. It wasn’t healthy and trust me, I tried and failed.
I found myself exhausted because I didn’t leave enough space to silence the noise. I had to learn to surrender and be still.
Do you ever stop to wonder how you can quiet the busyness that preoccupies your mind? By quieting your mind to the silence that is waiting for you.
Turn off the sounds, focus on going inward, let go of the mentality that you have to do it all without taking the time to be still.
Be Still, and know that I am God. Psalm 46:10
Stop filling your calendar
We love for our children to participate in extra curricular activities. It keeps them busy and wears them out for bedtime. Once they are fast asleep, instead of thinking about what there is to do next, take this time to bask in the silence and pray.
Be Intentional
Create a schedule that includes quiet time with God. Wake up 10 minutes earlier than you would and spend the time praying and listening. You will see such a vast improvement in your day.
Minimize screen time
Social media. We live for it. Our generation devours it at every opportunity possible. Put your phone down. Turn off the television. Take a look at your phone’s activity usage. Do you see where there is an opportunity to silence the noise?
Explore Nature
God’s glorious creation is the epitome of slowing down. Take a walk in a park, leave the earbuds at home and surround yourself with His creation and soak in the beauty of HIS voice.
Today is a good day to spend time silencing the noise to hear his voice.
