How do you introduce yourself?
Lately, mine is “Hi I am Chief's wife” (my husband is in the United States Navy), or “Yes, I am their mom”.
Other introductions are “Yep, I am the wife of the middle son”, or “Yeah, I'm that daughter in law”.
I can honestly say that recently I haven’t introduced myself based on my own merit or even using my own name. I’ve been answering to what people know about me.
Isn't it funny how our reputations sometimes proceeds us? People think because they have heard of us, they must know us.
I always worried about what others thought of me, or embarrassing my husband or any other family member for that matter. I used to let fear of what others may hear or think hold me captive for a very long time.
What did that have to do with being afraid of what others thought of me? Well, I was also afraid of what God thought of me.
I wasn't a Christian my entire life and grew up as a Catholic with a very different understanding of who God is.
I worried that I wasn't enough and couldn't gain his love because I kept doing the wrong thing.
It wasn't until I was married that I understood God didn't expect me to earn His love. He wasn’t waiting around to hear what people had to say about me because He knows me.
We are His creation, made in His image and dearly loved dearly by Him.
Although I have many descriptions that can be used to describe me, my favorite is ‘beloved child of God, redeemed, loved and saved by God's grace’
These are the exact same words that are used to describe you too.
So to introduce myself, I am Sharon. I am saved and covered by the grace of God, and I am so glad to share His love with you.
